Hey! Iβm amy.
SCRAP QUILTING ENTHUSIAST, GRAPHIC DESIGNER, AND CREATIVE BUSINESS EDUCATOR
Also: Capricorn (like, my whole chart), coffee snob, unschool mom, and girlβs girl who pets every dog I see in public.
βThe alternative to good design is bad design. There is no such thing as no design.β
My story
I started quilting in 2013 when I was a new mom with postpartum depression. I needed to do SOMETHING that (unlike the endless laundry and diapers) actually stayed done. Making things with my hands gave me a lifeline to feeling like myself.
I quickly discovered a penchant for designing my own quilts, and started writing patterns using Canva and graph paper. I sold them on Etsy for $5, and those cha-chings were the start of something life-changing. As my kids got older, what started off as fancy-coffee side hustle money turned into a full-blown career.
After a few years of constant rebranding, building new websites on every platform, and tweaking sales funnels, I realized that I enjoy the business part of running a business just as much as I do the quilting! Now I do both.
Looking back
It should have been obvious I was going to be a creative entrepreneur. When I was four, I got out the old JCPenny catalogs (remember those?) and critiqued all the clothes and home decor. When I was ten, my parents wouldnβt let me dye my hair, so I made colorful clip-in extensions and sold them to neighborhood kids for $1 each.
In high school, I crocheted hacky sacks and sold them to the stoner kids. I also wrote papers (ahemβ¦βtutoredβ), sold Gatorade after wrestling practice, and wrapped Christmas presents for money. Hustling is in my veins!
I bet youβd never guessβ¦

THE SINGLE BIGGEST COMPLAINT I HEAR FROM CREATIVES IS THAT THEY STRUGGLE TO TURN THEIR IDEAS INTO REALITY.
